A Falcon 9 launch sells for around $70 million, but that's not what it actually costs SpaceX to fly one. Because most of the rocket comes back and flies again, the real number is much lower. The upper stage gets built fresh every single time and never comes home, running somewhere around $7 million. The booster, on the other hand, gets refurbished and reused, sometimes 30+ times, bringing its cost down to roughly $1 million per flight once it's been through a few landings. Add it up and SpaceX's internal cost per launch is reportedly as low as $10-15 million. That works out to about $300 per pound to orbit, compared to the $1,200+ per pound customers are actually paying. That markup isn't just margin either, it's what funds Starship, Starlink, and whatever comes next. Reusability didn't just make rockets cheaper. It changed the math on space entirely.
